Pieris Forest Flame

Pieris Forest Flame

Pieris japonica ‘Forest Flame’ is an evergreen shrub prized for its brilliant spring flush of young foliage that opens vivid red, softens through pink, and matures to glossy green, complemented by drooping clusters of small, urn‑shaped white flowers in spring. Grow in a sheltered spot with acid (ericaceous), fertile, humus‑rich soil that is moist but well‑drained; avoid chalky ground. Best in light shade, though it will tolerate sun if the soil does not dry out. Minimal pruning is needed—lightly trim after flowering if shaping is required. Excellent as a focal shrub for borders and acid beds, and suitable for containers of ericaceous compost. Eventual size over time is typically around 2–4m in height and spread.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
