Mahonia Wintersun 3lt

Mahonia x media ‘Winter Sun’ is an evergreen, upright shrub with dark-green, spiny, holly-like leaves. In Ireland it bears fragrant yellow flower racemes from late autumn through winter into early spring, often followed by blue-black to purple berries. Grow in partial shade or shade in a moist but well-drained, humus-rich, moderately fertile soil; it will tolerate sunnier positions if the soil does not dry out. A valuable structural shrub for woodland and shaded borders, providing winter scent and nectar for bees, it will reach around 2.5–4m tall and 1.5–2.5m wide in 10–20 years.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
