Callistemon laevis P19
Callistemon laevis P19
Callistemon (bottlebrush) is an evergreen shrub valued for its narrow green foliage and distinctive cylindrical “bottlebrush” flower spikes on established plants. In Irish gardens it does best in full sun and a warm, very sheltered spot—ideally against a south- or west-facing wall—in moist but well‑drained, moderately fertile soil. In colder areas it is often grown in a container so it can be moved to frost‑free protection for winter. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new shoots, and avoid cutting back hard into old wood. Water during prolonged dry spells and protect from severe frost.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
