Verbena bonariensis
Verbena bonariensis 1L
Verbena bonariensis (Argentinian vervain) is a tall, airy perennial carrying clouds of small purple flowers on slender, wiry stems from late summer into autumn. Ideal threaded through ornamental grasses or in informal, naturalistic borders, it’s valued for movement and long seasonal interest. An RHS Award of Garden Merit plant, it’s loved by pollinators and often self-seeds, helping it persist even though individual plants can be short-lived. For best results in Irish gardens, grow in full sun and well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Eventual size around 2m tall by 0.5m wide.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
