Salvia 'Amistad' ®

Salvia 'Amistad' ®

Salvia 'Amistad' is a much-loved, long-flowering tender perennial sage producing elegant spikes of rich purple flowers held in near-black calyces from early summer into autumn, above fresh green foliage. Best in full sun or light shade and a sheltered spot with moderately fertile, well-drained soil. In Irish gardens it is half-hardy, so protect from frost by mulching in mild areas or overwintering under cover; avoid winter wet. Ideal for mixed borders and large containers, it responds well to regular deadheading to prolong display and is highly attractive to bees and other pollinators; expect a tall, upright habit suitable for the back or middle of a border.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
