Rhus typhina Tiger Eyes

Rhus typhina Tiger Eyes

Rhus typhina 'Tiger Eyes' is a compact, deciduous staghorn sumac valued for its finely cut, yellow foliage that emerges chartreuse and develops striking autumn colour. Forming a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree with a distinctive, architectural outline, it bears small greenish-yellow summer flowers. Best leaf colour is achieved in full sun, but it also tolerates light shade. Suits well-drained, moderately fertile soils and copes with periods of summer dryness; avoid waterlogged conditions. It can sucker from the base—remove unwanted shoots to maintain a neat shape. Fully hardy and reliable in Irish gardens, it makes a bold focal point or structural accent in mixed borders and smaller spaces.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
