Pieris Mountain Fire
Pieris Mountain Fire
Pieris japonica ‘Mountain Fire’ is a slow-growing, evergreen shrub valued for its vivid spring display: the young foliage flushes fiery red before maturing to glossy green, and in spring it carries sprays of small, white, bell-shaped flowers. Best grown in Ireland in partial shade with shelter from cold, drying winds, it thrives in acid (ericaceous), humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil; avoid alkaline or chalky ground. Consistent moisture in dry spells and an annual mulch with ericaceous organic matter will keep growth healthy and foliage colour at its best.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
