Osmanthus heterophyllus is a slow-growing, evergreen ornamental tree valued for its glossy, holly-like leaves and powerfully scented white flowers in autumn. Well suited to Irish gardens, it forms a dense, tidy canopy that responds well to clipping for structural shapes or screening. Plant in full sun or light shade in fertile, well-drained soil, and choose a sheltered spot away from cold, drying winds to encourage the best leaf quality and abundant fragrance. Ultimately a large shrub or small tree, it provides year-round structure and a welcome burst of perfume late in the season.
