Hydrangea querc. 'Toy Soldier'

Hydrangea quercifolia (oak-leaf hydrangea) selections such as ‘Toy Soldier’ are handsome, deciduous shrubs valued for their conical clusters of white summer flowers and bold, lobed foliage that develops striking autumn colour. Best grown in Ireland in sun or light shade with shelter from cold, drying winds, they prefer a moist but well‑drained, fertile, humus‑rich soil. Expect showy white panicles in mid to late summer, with plants slowly forming a rounded shrub around 2–2.5m over time, ideal for mixed borders and woodland‑style plantings where their seasonal interest can be enjoyed.
