Hydrangea anomala petiolaris C15
Hydrangea anomala petiolaris C15
A superb self-clinging climbing hydrangea for shaded walls, fences and tree trunks, Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris produces broad, flat lacecap heads of white flowers in early summer that brighten north- and east-facing aspects. This deciduous climber carries fresh green, serrated leaves on stems that attach by aerial roots; it is slow to establish but becomes a reliable cover in time. Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil and avoid very dry sites; watering during establishment improves performance. Little pruning is required—lightly thin or shorten after flowering to manage size and keep growth clear of gutters or windows.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
