Carex Oshima (Evergold)
Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’ is a compact, evergreen, clump-forming Japanese sedge valued for its elegant, arching leaves boldly striped golden-yellow with green margins. Ideal for brightening shaded areas in Irish gardens, it forms neat mounds around 20–30cm high and 30–45cm wide, suiting the front of borders, path edges, containers, and ground-cover in woodland-style plantings. Grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich, moderately fertile soil in partial to full shade; it will tolerate sun if the soil is kept evenly moist. In late spring it produces small, discreet brown flower spikes; maintenance is minimal, needing only the removal of any tired foliage towards the end of winter.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
