Astrantia major 'Button Pink'

Astrantia major 'Button Pink'

Astrantia major ‘Button Pink’ is a clump-forming, deciduous herbaceous perennial valued for its long-lasting summer blooms and reliability in Irish gardens. Palmate green foliage forms a neat mound, sending up slender stems topped with pincushion-like flower heads surrounded by papery bracts in soft pink. Flowering through early to late summer, it thrives in moisture-retentive, fertile soil in light shade, and will also grow in sun if the ground does not dry out. Excellent for mixed and cottage-style borders, for cutting and drying, and for supporting pollinators. Deadhead to prolong display and divide congested clumps in spring or early autumn. Typically reaches around 60–90cm in height with a moderate spread.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
