ALSTROEMERIA sp. River Valley

ALSTROEMERIA sp. River Valley

Clump-forming, tuberous Alstroemeria valued for a long summer display and superb cut flowers, producing elegant, lily-like blooms held on sturdy stems above lush green foliage. Best in sun or light shade in Ireland, in moderately fertile, well-drained but moisture-retentive soil; avoid winter waterlogging. Plant deeply and mulch in autumn to help crowns overwinter, and protect young shoots from late frosts. Deadhead by gently pulling spent flowering stems from the base to encourage further blooms, and provide discreet support if needed. Forms a tidy clump around 60–90cm tall in time.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
