Ajuga Black Scallop
Ajuga Black Scallop
Ajuga Black Scallop (Ajuga reptans ‘Black Scallop’) is a vigorous, low, mat-forming perennial valued for its very dark, scalloped foliage and rich blue flower spikes in late spring to early summer. Ideal for Irish gardens, it forms dense, weed-suppressing ground cover at the front of borders, along paths, under shrubs and small trees, in rock gardens and containers. Grow in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil; it succeeds in full sun or partial shade (in sunnier spots, keep the soil from drying out). Expect an eventual height around 10cm, spreading to approximately 30–45cm over time, with flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
