AGAPANTHUS africanus White
AGAPANTHUS africanus White
An elegant evergreen African lily producing rounded heads of white, funnel-shaped flowers in July–August, carried on upright stems above clumps of strap-like green leaves. Best in full sun and moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil, it suits sunny borders and is especially good in containers. In colder parts of Ireland, choose a warm, sheltered spot and provide winter protection (or move pots to shelter) to prevent frost damage to the evergreen foliage and crowns; avoid waterlogging at any time of year. Eventual height around 90–120cm, spread 50–60cm.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
