Acer palmatum 'Starfish' is a compact, deciduous Japanese maple valued for its elegant foliage and reliable autumn colour. Well-suited to small gardens and containers, it performs best in sun or light shade with shelter from cold, drying winds. Plant in moisture-retentive but well-drained, preferably acidic, moderately fertile soil, and avoid sites that become waterlogged or very dry. Slow-growing and naturally shapely, it makes a refined focal point for patios, courtyards, and mixed borders in Irish gardens.
