Acer palmatum (Dissectum Group) is a laceleaf Japanese maple with a graceful, low, spreading habit and finely cut, clear green foliage. It grows slowly into a rounded, cascading dome that adds texture and structure to small gardens and containers. For best results in Irish gardens, plant in light shade with shelter from wind to protect the delicate leaves from scorching; choose a moist but well‑drained, humus‑rich, slightly acidic soil and mulch to retain moisture. Generally hardy, though young growth can be marked by late spring frosts, so avoid early morning sun after a frost. Minimal pruning is needed—simply remove any dead or crossing shoots in winter. An excellent choice for Japanese‑inspired planting and as a specimen in pots or borders, with reliable seasonal interest and often striking autumn colour.
